Account

Yes, to be able to submit reports or chat with us online you need to first register for an account.
Click on create an account at the top of the portal, provide your details and set a password. You will then receive an email to verify your account. After you have done this, you are ready to start using the portal.
Your username is always the email address used to create your account.
Your password is created by you, at the time of registration. It is a minimum of 10 characters and a combination of at least one number, one lowercase character, one uppercase character and one symbol. Remember, never share your password with another person.
If you forget your password, just click forgotten password on the login page. You will then be asked to enter your email username. An email will be sent to you with a link to reset your password. Remember, your new password must contain at least one number, one lowercase character, one uppercase character and one symbol.
Just log in to your account and click on my account at the top of the portal. You will then be able to edit your details, change your preferences, permanently delete your account or change your password.
If you wish to cancel your portal account, you can do this by logging in, going to the my account section and clicking on permanently delete my account

My Activity

If you click on my activity at the top of the portal home screen, this will take you to the area of the portal which records all your interactions with South Yorkshire Police. Here you will see a record of any incidents you have reported and any webchats etc.
The CRM number indicates that your report has been received by South Yorkshire Police. Once your report has been assessed by our team, and an incident has been created, you will see an incident number starting with SYP. It is this reference you should quote in all correspondence with us.
This status means your report has been received at South Yorkshire Police. When a member of our team picks up the report, you will notice a CRM reference is allocated to the report.
This status means your report has been received at South Yorkshire Police. You will be re-contacted should any further information be required.
This status means your report has been assessed by our team, and an incident has been created. You will notice an SYP reference is allocated to the report, and should be quoted in all correspondence with us.
This column will include reports submitted, and any other methods of contact after your account has been created. This may also include manual searches made against your account in relation to previous contacts made with South Yorkshire Police.
This status means that your report has been dealt with, OR is under further investigation.

Reports

If you have already submitted your report, but want to add some further information, in my activity, click on the title of your report, and it will open up your full report. Scroll to the bottom of the report and click provide update. From here you can update the report with further information, or even upload some photo/video evidence.
If you no longer wish to proceed with the report you have submitted, go to my activity and click on the title of the report you wish to close. Scroll down to the bottom of the report and click request closure. Select a reason, add any additional notes, and then select close incident. PLEASE NOTE - We will need to assess your request before an incident can be closed, and we may need to contact you further to discuss.
If you wish to add photo / video footage to an already submitted report, go to my activity, scroll down and click provide update. Under the evidence upload section, you can attach photo / video footage here.
If you are not able to complete your report all at once, at the bottom of each page there is a save for later option, click this and a draft of your report will be saved. You can then return to the report later by going to my activity and clicking on the report name again. This will allow you to pick up where you left off.
Different report types are needed to make sure we gather the right type of information from you. Questions relevant to a particular incident, may not be to another report type.
Every report has a knowledge item attached to it. On the front page of the portal, use the search bar to type questions or words on the subject you are looking for. If you still are not sure what type of report to use, click assistance at the top of the page and request a webchat to seek further advice.

Once you are signed in to the portal, click on the webchat tab at the top of the page. This will open a separate window which will connect you to an operator if one is available.

Troubleshooting?

Internet Explorer is not supported by the South Yorkshire Police portal, but most modern browsers are. Examples of supported browsers are Chrome/Safari/Edge/Firefox.
Check that you have completed any mandatory fields on the relevant page. If you still cannot move on, try logging out and back in again.
When using devices with smaller screens, if the format of the webpage does not appear correctly, try turning your device to landscape mode or vice versa.
Click on the Home tab at the top of the page.
Click on the SYP logo in the top left of the page.
The South Yorkshire Police portal is accessible through mobile devices and tablets. In order to get the best experience, make sure your device's software is up to date.
